Law Enforcement applications of biometric technology revenues have been almost entirely attributable to deployment of AFIS systems, used at the local, state, and national levels - domestically and abroad - to identify suspects in criminal applications.
Growth in Law Enforcement will be driven both by increased AFIS sales and by new types of biometric implementations. The AFIS market, mature by biometric standards, has less room for explosive growth than emerging sectors, but the revenue stream for this technology in Law Enforcement applications is consistent. Internationally, nationwide AFIS deployments, involving the collection or conversion of fingerprints for use in centralized 1:N searches, will drive revenues to the major suppliers of this core technology. New form factors such as portable devices tied to central databases for field suspect identification will find adoption in jurisdictions ready to complement first-generation AFIS technology. In addition, there will be additional expansion to foreign markets in both the local and the large-scale AFIS sectors.
