Project Summary

  • Development of blanket methodology for biometric device evaluation - inclusive of technical and operational assessment, IT and access control systems, standardized and non-standardized functions, user and administrator functions, and multiple biometric technologies - on behalf of a U.S. military warfare systems command organization.

IBG Responsibilities

  • Establish complete requirements gathering protocols inclusive of General Pilot / Deployment Information, Software Issues, Hardware Issues, Standards Issues, User Processes, Administrator Processes, Environmental Factors, and Performance Issues
  • Define technical test and assessment modules to gather data on biometric hardware and software, client/server operations, and features and functionality for IT security and access control devices
  • Define operational test and assessment modules to gather data on enrollment and verification processes for IT security and access control devices
  • Define protocols for technology-specific device evaluation, inclusive of fingerprint, facial recognition, iris recognition, hand geometry, and voice verification
  • Define performance modules to enable evaluation of device accuracy and enrollment capabilities
  • Provide sample user and administrator surveys
  • Deliver 100-page methodology and associated report template to serve as basis of ongoing biometric device evaluations

In need of a comprehensive methodology for its biometric device tests, a U.S. military warfare systems command organization engaged IBG to conceive, structure, and deliver a complete biometric device evaluation and data collection methodology. IBG was responsible for identification of collectable data of analytic value and of specific interest to the report audience.

The essential challenge was to structure a device assessment methodology to account for the hundreds of variables involved in device evaluation. IBG created a hierarchical methodology by which requirements gathering mapped directly to test and assessment modules for use in data collection. These test and assessment modules - divided into technical and operational - contained hundreds of data collection elements, providing a full picture of device capabilities, features, and functions.

The engagement's primary work product - 150 pages of data collection methodology, reporting templates, and administrator manuals - was delivered to the client within 1 month of contract execution.
